R5xx Compositing - Partially Done
Posted by Hans de Ruiter
It has been a while since I posted an update about this RadeonHD driver for Amiga OS 4.x project. At present I am still working on implementing compositing for R5xx chipsets (Radeon X1000 series cards) but, there is progress. The screenshot shown below (and the thumbnail image to the left) was captured from a Radeon X1550 PCI card when running Amiga OS 4.1 with compositing enabled. As you can see, basic compositing is operational.
Compositing support is still incomplete, however, and some errors are visible in the screenshot. The drop shadows and window transparencies are not working yet. and there are several use cases that are not fully operational. Nevertheless, the hardest task of getting anything working at all has been done.
Compositing on Amiga OS 4.1 is considerably more powerful than that which is available on Linux via EXA. While this is great for application developers, it places more burden on the graphics driver developer. This is why there have been few updates to this development log over the last few months. I cannot say how much longer it will be until R5xx compositing is fully implemented, but it is mostly done.
